Since the beginning of time, mankind has looked for substances to treat a
wide range of health problems, rather than treating individual symptoms
or conditions. Natural compounds may offer the best hope, as they have
the potential for multiple uses. Research has shown that spice extracts
offer a wide range of curative properties. They are powerful germicides,
capable of killing a wide range of germs, as well as potent antioxidants.
One of the most potent of these is wild oregano.

Few people realize that wild oregano has been relied upon as a
therapeutic herb since antiquity. About 3000 B.C. the Babylonians
described it as a cure for lung and cardiac disease. They also used it
for wound healing and venomous bites. The ancient Greeks used wild
oregano for healing wounds, destroying infections and reversing lung and
cardiac disorders.

In the book, Salmon’s Herbal, written in the 1600’s, oregano oil is
highly valued and recommended for chest, menstrual, uterine, lung and
digestive complaints. Specific uses mentioned include: diarrhea, asthma,
colds, infections of the female sexual organs and uterine tumors.
Additionally, its value against liver disorders is emphasized.

In Garden of Health (1633), William Langham described an even wider range
of uses including such diverse conditions as bladder trouble, bleeding,
heart failure, head pain, itchy skin, mouth pain, spots on the skin,
stomachache, intestinal worms and toothache. Oregano oil has always been
relied upon as an emergency medicine.

Oregano oil is well known in the Mediterranean world (Greece and Crete)
for its ability to slow down food spoilage because of its antibacterial,
anti-fungal, anti-parasitic and antioxidant abilities. The related herbs
of thyme and marjoram sold in most North American supermarkets, are
labeled incorrectly as oregano and possess little of the wild oregano’s
healing properties.

Oil of Oregano is a completely natural substance derived from the wild
oregano species. The plant grows in remote mountainous regions free of
pollution. Only the leaves of the flowering plant are used. They are
picked precisely when the plant is highest in essential oil. Being wild,
it is grown chemical-free and the oil is extracted via a completely
natural process – no chemicals or solvents are used. The oil is the
source of virtually all of the plant’s active ingredients.

The benefit of oregano has gone largely unnoticed. In addition to
fighting various fungi, oil of oregano is useful against bacteria and
parasites. It can be used to treat internal and external fungi including
athlete’s foot. Skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema can be
improved. Oil of oregano outright destroys all variety of fungi and
yeasts, regardless of where they reside. In the case of parasites, oil of
oregano has had success in neutralizing worms, amoeba, and protozoan. Oil
of oregano’s antiseptic powers are immense – it inhibits the growth of
the majority of bacteria, something that prescription antibiotics fail to
accomplish.

Wild, crude, mountain-grown oregano (from the Mediterranean) is the only
kind that is naturally rich in ‘carvacrols, flavonoids, and terpenes’,
which give the oregano its tremendous strength. Carvacrol is a natural
phenol that contains powerful anti-microbial activity. Flavonoids provide
natural antiseptic properties and Terpenes are natural anti-inflammatory
agents.

Oil of Oregano effectively treats: acne, allergies, arthritis, asthma,
athlete’s foot, candida, constipation, croup, dandruff, diarrhea,
digestive disturbances, insect bites, bronchitis, canker sores, colds,
flu, earaches, fatigue, gum disease, headaches, menstrual irregularities,
muscle pain, parasites, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia, psoriasis,

Because wild oregano is an edible spice, it is acceptable for human
ingestion. However, the type of oregano used if very important. North
American Herb and Spice was the first company of the American market to
introduce edible Oil of Oregano. To be edible, this essential oil must be
made only from wild, mountain-grown, Mediterranean oregano, free of all
chemicals and pesticides. It also has to be emulsified in a carrier oil
such as extra virgin olive oil, which is used by North American Herb &
Spice in its oil of oregano. The oregano they use is 100% Mediterranean
oregano and is produced by old-fashioned cold pressing and steam
distillation, using no chemicals to extract it.

Oil of Oregano is available in liquid and capsule form. Oil of Oreganol
is highly concentrated, so when using it internally, start with small
amounts, like one to two drops twice daily in juice. Take one drop twice
per day working your way up to one drop four times per day. Mix with one
teaspoon of honey, maple syrup, or olive oil to improve palatability.
Take for a period of 15 days and then stop for 15 days. Repeat the
process.

Oil of Oregano may also be applied topically to treat itches, infections
of the skin, gum, teeth or just about any orifice of the body. Exercise

Almost everyone experiences some form of worry one time or another. It is
a part of life. Everyday, we struggle financially, make decisions, and
face major changes in life. These things create an inevitable occasional
wave of apprehension. Ordinarily, a certain amount of worry is essential
for our survival. It helps us to focus on the task at hand and leads us
to constructive action. However, when worry goes overboard, instead of
being a good friend, reminding us to use good sense, worry suddenly
morphs into a bully, making us crazy about things we can’t control.
Here’s a list of reasons why constant worry is not good, if it is at all:

1. Worry is a Complete Waste of Time

Worry changes nothing. We don’t accomplish anything or find answers to
our questions by worrying. We also cannot add anything to our life by
worrying. Worry can only subtract from our lives by causing such
infirmities like ulcers or coronary thrombosis. Worry is just muddling
away today’s time to clutter up tomorrow’s opportunities with yesterday’s
troubles.

2. Worry is Unnecessary

Worry can’t erase the mistakes of the past. It can’t unravel the answers
to the future. It can’t make anything better in the present. Hence, there
is no need for worry because it is inessential.

3. Worry Contradicts Common Sense

We must learn to live one day at a time. God has given us our lives in
units of twenty-four hours and we should take life a day at a time. If we
wish to live a long and fruitful life, we should respect and live by the
biological clock He has built inside us.

4. Worry is Illogical

Worry is illogical because it is futile, unproductive and pointless. It
is faith in the negative, trust in the unpleasant, assurance of disaster
and belief in defeat. We do not know what tomorrow may bring, so there is
no point in worrying about it. Why look ahead and worry about things that
have not yet happened. They may just never happen anyway.

5. Worry Creates the Problem

If we are focused on our fears, we are more likely to crash into them.
Thinking about them is a confirmation bias of their existence making them
exist even if they aren’t really there.

6. Worry Distracts Our Attention

Worry distracts us from the duties of the present. It grabs our attention
from the things of utmost importance. It interferes with our highest
functioning and delicious enjoyment of life. Worry is an uninvited guest
who spoils all our fun, making our shoulders droop and forehead crease
just when we should be feeling triumphant or carefree or filled with hope.

7. Worry Doubles Our Problems

To anticipate future troubles by worrying about them today is to double
them. We already have enough troubles today. Today’s problems are all we
are capable of handling. Worrying for tomorrow stacks up more problems
than we can handle.

8. Worry Diverts our Point of Life

Life is far more important than material things. So often our worries are
about relatively unimportant and trivial matters, such as food, drink,
clothing, houses and cars. If we seek fulfilment in material things, we
are missing the whole point of life. The point of life is the fulfillment
of our purpose. Our life purpose is a combination of three things: who we
are at the very core, our vision for our self and what we see possible
for the world and our values. Instead of working out for our purpose,
worry takes us away from the main stream of life completely diverting us
from our point of life.

9. Worry is Toxic to our Health

When we worry, every system in our body is affected. Blood clotting
increases, blood pressure rises, and the liver produces more cholesterol,
all of which raises our risk of heart attack and stroke. Muscle tension
gives rise to headaches, back pain, and other body aches. It also
triggers an increase in stomach acid and either slow or speed up muscle
contractions in our intestines, which can lead to stomach aches,
constipation, diarrhea, gas or heartburn. Worry can also affect our
respiratory system by aggravating asthma.

It is a medical fact that worriers die sooner than the non-worriers. That
is because, as Dr. E. Stanley Jones says, “we are not designed to live in
fear and worry.” To live by worry is against our own nature. That is why
worry is so destructive.

10. Worry Affects the People we Love

The Greek word for “worry” is “merimnaw” which literally means “to be
drawn in different directions.” In logical terms, worry tears us to
pieces spiritually, psychologically, physically and even socially. When
we become too focused on our worries, we forget about the things that
really matters, even the people we care. It is a constant and dominating
force that disrupts our lives and disconnects us from others.

We don’t have to deny our worries or push them out to the limits because
in reality, we can’t. It is a part of us. It is our nature. Indeed, worry
is good to some extent. It only takes a toll on our lives if we are so
consumed in it. If we hang around it day in and day out, it can short
circuit our own electrical systems and leave us malfunctioning. We should
take control over our worries instead of letting them take control over
us. Worries are only in our head, thus it leaves us a choice whether to
allow them to propagate or just forget about them. Sometimes, the process
of worrying about a problem becomes much bigger than the problem itself.
So we often need to learn to deal with worries head on. We should choose
to think of the present concerns and decide to do something about them
instead of simply worrying on them.

In April 2004 the FDA removed ephedra from the market claiming that it
was responsible for dozens of deaths. The legal battle between the FDA
and health officials began when the health officials became unhappy with
the FDA’s decision to ban ephedra. The FDA had not taken proper action in
declaring the ban on Ephedra based products. There reasoning for the ban
was that there were too many problems occurring, some of which led to
deaths. Ephedra was considered to be a drug that was too risky. The FDA
claims that the negatives outweighed the positive aspects of the drug.

Although this didn’t seem to be the case until a baseball player had died
sometime after taking an Ephedra based product to increase his
performance. The FDA didn’t recognize that the baseball player had miss
used the herb. Just like the others who had serious problems with the use
of Ephedra; they were the same ones who abused the drug thinking they
could increase the benefits by taking more at one time

On April 14 of 2005 a federal judge, Tena Campbell of the federal
district court in Salt Lake City Utah reversed the ban on ephedra. This
reversal forced the FDA revise their decision to ban products containing
Ephedra.. The FDA lifted the ban recently because they where forced to
realize Ephedra based products, if used properly, had astounding
benefits, especially weight loss by naturally increasing energy and
metabolism.

Ephedrine is found in many over-the-counter medications such as Sudafed,
Contac, Primatene, and Bronkaid, but it has been used for over 5,000
years. It was used by the Chinese for many health issues including asthma
and bronchitis. Ephedra is a powerful blood purifier, being a popular
folk remedy for such conditions as arthritis, rheumatism, bursitis and
other painful muscle and joint problems. Since Ephedra is a
vasoconstrictor, it has also been used to stop internal bleeding.

Most people are well aware that an estimated 45 million Americans
currently do not have healthcare, but is the crisis simply the lack of
health insurance or even the cost of health insurance? Is there a bigger
underlying problem at the root of our healthcare system? Although the
U.S. claims to have the most advanced medicine in the world, government
health statistics and peer-reviewed journals demonstrate that allopathic
medicine often causes more harm than good.

People in general have always felt they could trust doctors and the
medical profession, but according to the Journal of the American Medical
Association in July 2000, iatrogenic death, also known as death from
physician error or death from medical treatment, was the third leading
cause of death in America and rising, responsible for at least 250,000
deaths per year. Those statistics are considered conservative by many, as
the reported numbers only include in-hospital deaths, not injury or
disability, and do not include external iatrogenic deaths such as those
resulting from nursing

  and other private facility treatments, and
adverse effects of prescriptions. One recent study estimated the total
unnecessary deaths from iatrogenic causes at approximately 800,000 per
year at a cost of $282 billion per year, which would make death from
American medicine the leading cause of death in our country.

Currently, at least 2 out of 3 Americans use medications, 32 million
Americans are taking three or more medications daily, and commercials and
advertisements for pharmaceutical drugs have saturated the marketplace.
Although our population is aging, exorbitantly expensive drugs are being
marketed and dispensed to younger and younger patients, including many
children who years ago would never have been given or needed medication,
for everything from ADHD to asthma to bipolar disease and diabetes.
Clearly, the state of health in this country is not improving even though
there are an increasing number of medications and treatments. Between
2003 and 2010, the number of prescriptions are expected to increase
substantially by 47%. In recent years, numerous drugs previously deemed
safe by the FDA have been recalled because of their toxicity, after the
original drug approvals were actually funded by the invested
pharmaceutical companies themselves.

According to the media, thanks to advances in U.S. drugs and medical
procedures, Americans are living longer statistically, but they are
living longer sicker, with a lower quality of life, and often dependent
on multiple expensive synthetic medications that do not cure or address
the underlying causes, but only suppress symptoms, often with a plethora
of dangerous side effects to the tune of billions of dollars for the drug
industry. Considering that the U.S. is supposed to have the most advanced
technology in the world and the best health care system, it is at odds
that we spend the most on healthcare, yet are the most obese and most
afflicted with illness outside of the AIDS epidemic in some third world
countries.

Unless you have an acute emergency that requires emergency room care,
being admitted to a hospital environment may be more dangerous to your
health than staying out. In 2003, epidemiologists reported in the New
England Journal of Medicine that hospital-acquired infections have risen
steadily in recent decades, with blood and tissue infections known as
sepsis almost tripling from 1979 to 2000. Nearly two million patients in
the U.S. get an infection while in the hospital each year, and of those
patients over 90,000 die per year, up dramatically from just 13,300 in
1992. Statistics show that approximately 56% of the population has been
unnecessarily treated, or mistreated, by the medical industry.

Additionally, as a result of the overuse of pharmaceutical drugs and
antibiotics in our bodies and environment, our immune systems have become
significantly weakened, allowing antibiotic-resistant strains of
disease-causing bacteria to proliferate, leaving us more susceptible to
further disease. Not surprisingly, incidences of diseases have been
growing at epidemic levels according to the CDC. Now diseases once
thought conquered, such as tuberculosis, gonorrhea, malaria, and
childhood ear infections are much harder to successfully treat than they
were decades ago. Drugs do not cure. They only suppress the symptoms that
your body needs to express, while they ignore the underlying root cause.
Side effects of synthetic and chemical drugs, which even if they are
partly derived from nature have been perverted to make them patentable
and profitable, are not healthy or natural, and usually cause more harm
than any perceived benefit of the medication.

Where “physician errors” are concerned, these may not be entirely the
fault of the doctors, as they are forced to operate within the
constraints of their profession or risk losing their license, but doctors
have become pawns and spokesmen for the drug companies, and the best
interest of the patient has become secondary. In the name of profit,
physicians are also under great pressure from hospitals to service
patients as quickly as possible, like an assembly line, increasing the
likelihood of error.

In conclusion, increases in healthcare costs are not just the result of
frivolous law suits, but are primarily the result of a profit-oriented
industry that encourages practices that lead to unnecessary and harmful
procedures being performed, lethal adverse drug reactions, infections,
expensive legitimate lawsuits, in-hospital and physician errors,
antibiotic resistance due to overprescribing of antibiotics and drugs,
and the hundreds of thousands of subsequent unnecessary deaths and
injuries. Many people do not realize that there are healthier natural

to cause either immediate or cumulative damage over time.

Everything begins with your consciousness. Everything that happens in
your life, and everything that happens in your body, begins with
something happening in your consciousness.

Your consciousness is who you are, your experience of Being.

You decide what ideas to accept and which to reject. You decide what to
think, and you decide what to feel. When these decisions leave you with
residual stress, you experience the stress as if in your physical body.
We know that stress creates symptoms. The interesting question is, “Which
stress creates which symptoms?” When we are able to quantify this
process, we are then able to see the body as a map of the person’s
consciousness, relating particular symptoms to particular stresses and
particular ways of being, in the same way that Type “A” Behavior has been
able to be associated with heart disease.

Everything Starts In Your Consciousness

To understand this map, we must first orient ourselves to the idea that
the causes of symptoms are within. While it’s true that germs cause
disease and accidents cause injuries, it is also true that this happens
in accord with what is happening in the consciousness of the person
involved.

Germs are everywhere. Why are some people affected and not others?
Something different is happening in their consciousness.

Why do some patients in hospitals respond better to treatment than
others? They have different attitudes. Something different is happening
in their consciousness When someone is injured in an “accident,” why is
it that a very specific part of the body is affected, and that it is the
same part that has had habitual problems? Is that an “accident,” or is
there a pattern and an order to the way things happen in our bodies?

You Are A Being of Energy

Your consciousness, your experience of Being, who you really are, is
energy. We can call it “Life Energy” for now. This energy does not just
live in your brain; it fills your entire body. Your consciousness is
connected to every cell in your body. Through your consciousness, you can
communicate with every organ and every tissue, and a number of therapies
are based on this communication with the organs which have been affected
by some kind of symptom or disorder.

This energy which is your consciousness, and which reflects your state of
consciousness, can be measured through the process known as Kirlian
photography. When you take a Kirlian photograph of your hand, it shows a
certain pattern of energy. If you take a second photograph while
imagining that you are sending love and energy to someone you know, there
will be a different pattern of energy shown on the Kirlian photograph.
Thus, we can see that a change in your consciousness creates a change in
the energy field that is being photographed, which we call the aura.

This energy field shown in the Kirlian photographs has been quantified,
so that when there are “holes” in particular parts of the energy field,
these are said to correspond to particular weaknesses in specific parts
of the physical body. The interesting thing about this is that the
weakness shows up in the energy field before there is ever any evidence
of it on the physical level.

Thus, we have an interesting direction of manifestation shown through
what we have described.

1. A change of consciousness creates a change in the energy field.

2. A change in the energy field happens before a change in the physical
body.

The direction of manifestation is from the consciousness, through the
energy field, to the physical body.

Consciousness——1——?Energy Field——2——?Physical Body

When we look at things in this way, we see that it is not the physical
body creating the energy field, the aura, but rather the aura or energy
field that is creating the physical body. What we see as the physical
body is the end result of a process that begins with the consciousness.

We Each Create Our Reality

When someone makes a decision that leaves them with stress, creating a
blockage in the energy field with a sufficient degree of intensity, this
creates a symptom on the physical level. The symptom speaks a certain
language, which reflects the idea that we each create our own reality.
When the symptom is described from that point of view, the metaphoric
significance of the symptom becomes clear. Thus, instead of saying, “I
can’t see,” the person would have to say, “I have been keeping myself
from seeing something.” If they cannot walk, they would have to say, “I
have been keeping myself from walking away from something.” And so on. We
must understand that there are no accidents and no coincidences. Things
do happen according to a pattern and order.

The Human Directional System

We can say that we have an inner guidance system, a connection to our
Higher Self, or our Inner Being, or whatever name we choose to give this
Higher Intelligence. This inner guidance system functions through what we
call our intuition, or our instinct. It speaks a very simple language.
Either it feels good, or it doesn’t. All the rest is just politics.

We are told we should move with what feels good, and do not do what
doesn’t feel good to us. We are told to trust this inner voice. When we
don’t follow this inner voice we feel tension. We feel not-good.

Then, the voice must get louder. The next level of communication is
through the emotions. As we move more and more in the direction that
feels not-good, we experience more and more emotions that feel not-good,
and at some point we can say, “I should have listened to myself when I
thought to move in the other direction.” That meant that we heard the
inner voice. Otherwise, we could not have said, “I should have listened.”
If we make the decision we know is the right one for us, and therefore
change direction, there is a release of tension, we feel better, and we
know we are again on the right track.

If we continue to move in the direction that feels not-good, the
communication reaches the physical level. We create a symptom, and the
symptom speaks a language which reflects the idea that we each create our
own reality. When we describe the symptom from that point of view, we can
understand the message.

If we change our way of being, we have received the message, and the
symptom has no further reason for being. It is able to be released,
according to whatever we allow ourselves to believe is possible.

If we created the symptom with a decision, we are also able to release it
with a decision.

As an hypothesis, we can imagine that someone makes a decision that it is
not a good idea to express what they want. From that moment, whenever
there is something they want, they keep themselves from expressing it,
and therefore from having what they want. That feels not-good. The
tension grows. They feel more and more not-good as they keep themselves
from expressing what they want and not having it.

Eventually, something happens to create a symptom on the physical level,
and their right arm is affected. It could have happened through falling
from a ladder, or in an automobile accident, or by pinching a nerve in
the neck, or by “sleeping in a draft.”

Something had to happen on the physical level to create the symptom, in
order to give the person the message on the physical level about what
they had been doing to themselves. We do to ourselves literally what we
have been doing to ourselves figuratively.

The effect is that the person cannot move their arm. They are keeping
themselves from reaching for something, and since it is the right arm, on
the “will” side of the body, they are keeping themselves from reaching
for or going for what they want. They have been giving themselves reasons
to not believe that they could have what they want. When they begin to do
something different in their consciousness, they notice that something
different begins to happen with their arm, and the symptom is able to be
released.

Chakras And The Map

To understand the map of the consciousness that the body represents, we
can turn to some ancient Hindu traditions which have been studying
consciousness for thousands of years, and which use the language of the
chakras.

Chakra is a Sanskrit word, and it means “wheel,” or “vortex,” because
that’s what it looks like when we look at it. Each chakra is like a solid
ball of energy interpenetrating the physical body, in the same way that a
magnetic field can interpenetrate the physical body.

The chakras are not physical. They are aspects of consciousness in the
same way that the auras are aspects of consciousness The chakras are more
dense than the auras, but not as dense as the physical body, but they
interact with the physical body through two major vehicles, the endocrine
system and the nervous system. Each of the seven chakras is associated
with one of the seven endocrine glands, and also with a particular group
of nerves called a plexus. Thus, each chakra can be associated with
particular parts of the body and particular functions within the body
controlled by that plexus or that endocrine gland associated with that
chakra.

Your consciousness, your experience of being, represents everything it is
possible for you to experience. All of your senses, all of your
perceptions, all of your possible states of awareness, can be divided
into seven categories, and each of these categories can be associated
with a particular chakra. Thus, the chakras represent not only particular
parts of your physical body, but also particular parts of your
consciousness. When you feel tension in your consciousness, you feel it
in the chakra associated with the part of your consciousness experiencing
the stress, and in the parts of the physical body associated with that
chakra. Where you feel the stress depends therefore on why you feel the
stress. When someone is hurt in a relationship, they feel it in their
heart. When someone is nervous, their legs tremble and their bladder
becomes weak.

When there is tension in a particular part of your consciousness, and
therefore in the chakra associated with that part of your consciousness,
the tension is detected by the nerves of the plexus associated with that
chakra, and communicated to the parts of the body controlled by that
plexus. When the tension continues over a period of time, or reaches a
particular degree of intensity, the person creates a symptom on the
physical level. Again, the symptom served to communicate to the person
through their body what they had been doing to themselves in their
consciousness. When the person changes something about their way of
being, they are able to release the stress that had been creating the
symptom, and they are then able to return to their natural state of
balance and health.

Reading The Map

When we are reading the body as a map of the consciousness within, we
work with the idea that the tensions in the body represent tensions in
the person’s consciousness concerning what was happening in the person’s
life at the time that the symptom developed. The person was feeling
stress about something that was happening in their life at that time.

We are going to examine the map of consciousness that the chakras
provide, in order to understand the language of the symptoms that are
associated with each chakra. In order to complete this map, however, we
also need to look at ourselves as each a polarity of yin and yang,
feminine and masculine characteristics.

For most people, their right side is their yang side, their will side,
their acting or active side, and the left side is their yin side, their
female side, their feeling or adaptive side. For people who were born
left-handed, this polarity is reversed. Thus, for a right-handed person,
their right leg can be described as their will leg, or their male leg, or
the foundation of their will, but for a left-handed person, their left
leg would be their male leg or will leg, and so on. Thus, we can talk
about the will arm, or the will eye, or the will nostril, etc., and which
side it is on will depend upon whether the person is right-handed or
left-handed at birth.

Each of the chakras is energy vibrating at a certain frequency, in a
logical and orderly sequence of seven vibrations. As we move up the
scale, the elements become more and more subtle, moving through the five
physical elements of earth, water, fire, air, and ether, to the spiritual
elements of inner sound and inner light. The heaviest element is on the
bottom, the lightest on the top. It is a logical and orderly sequence.

The colors of the spectrum also represent a series of seven vibrations in
a logical and orderly sequence, as do the notes of the musical scale.
Thus, we can put the heaviest vibrations or the longest wavelength on the
bottom and the lightest on the top, and a particular color can be used to
represent a chakra in its clear state, as can a particular musical note.
Music played in a certain key vibrates a particular chakra, and we feel a
particular way when we hear that music. Our relationship with a certain
color says something about our relationship with the part of our
consciousness that the color represents.

The Root Chakra is associated with the parts of our consciousness
concerned with security, survival, or trust. For most people, this
concerns the parts of their consciousness concerned with money,

job. When this chakra is in its clear state, the person is able to feel
secure, be present in the here and now, and be grounded. When there is
tension in this chakra, it is experienced as insecurity or fear. When
there is more tension, it is experienced as a threat to survival.

Parts of the body controlled by the sacral plexus and this chakra include
the skeleton system, the legs, and the elimination system. Symptoms in
these parts of the body represent, therefore, tensions at the level of
the Root Chakra, and we therefore know that the person is seeing the
world through a perceptual filter of insecurity or fear. The adrenal
glands are also associated with this chakra.

If one leg is affected, we can see whether it is the male leg or the
female leg, and thus whether it has something to do with trust in a male
or trust in a female. We can also see it as having something to do with
trust in the will, or the aspects of trust in the foundations the
emotional being, related to what was happening in the person’s life at
the time the symptom developed.

The physical sense of smell, and therefore the organ of the sense of
smell, the nose, is associated with the Root Chakra. Symptoms at the
level of the nose or affecting the sense of smell reflect tensions at the
level of the Root Chakra.

Each chakra is associated with an element. The Root Chakra is associated
with the element of earth, and reflects something about the person’s
association with the earth, or how they feel about being on the earth,
which we call Mother Earth. This chakra is also associated with our
relationship with our mother. When someone experiences a sense of
separation from their mother, or not feeling loved by their mother, they
cut off their roots and experience symptoms of tensions at the level of
the Root Chakra until they can again open to accept their mother’s love.

When a child comes into the world in the traditional family structure,
the mother provides the nourishment and the father provides the
direction. Thus, in the child’s relationship with its mother, it makes
certain decisions about the way things are. The relationship with the
mother thus becomes a model for the person’s relationship with everything
that represents security – money,

The Root Chakra is associated with the color red.

The Abdominal Chakra is associated with the parts of our consciousness
concerned with food and sex – the communication from the body to the
person within it, about what the body wants or needs, and what it finds
pleasurable. It also is related to what is happening in their
consciousness about having children. When this chakra is in its clear
state, the person is in touch with this communication, and listening to
and responding appropriately to what the body wants and needs.

Parts of the body controlled by the lumbar plexus include the
reproductive system and the abdomen, and the lumbar region of the back.

The sense of taste is associated with this chakra, as is the element of
water. When someone does not have a clear relationship with water
(swimming, for example, or being on a boat), this reflects their
attitudes about the parts of their consciousness that this chakra
represents.

Tensions on the will side or the emotional side of this chakra indicate
tensions in the person’s consciousness as conflicts between either the
will or the emotions with what the person’s body is asking for.

This chakra is associated with the sense of taste, and with appetite. It
is also involved with the person’s willingness to feel their emotions.

The second chakra is associated with the color orange.

The Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the parts of our consciousness
having to do with perceptions of power, control, or freedom. In its clear
state, it represents ease of being, and comfort with what is real for
one’s self – being comfortable with who you are.

Parts of the body associated with this chakra include the organs closest
to the solar plexus – stomach, gall bladder, spleen, liver, etc. – as
well as the skin as a system, the muscular system as a system, and the
face in general.

The physical sense associated with this chakra is the sense of sight.
Anyone with impaired eyesight experiences tension at the level of their
solar plexus chakra about the issues of power, control, or freedom.
Nearsighted people also experience tensions at the level of the Root
Chakra, and experience the world through a perceptual filter of fear or
insecurity. Those who are farsighted experience tension also at the level
of the throat chakra, and see the world through a perceptual filter of
anger or guilt. Astigmatics see through the emotional perceptual filter
of confusion.

The endocrine gland associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra is the
pancreas. We can say that diabetics are keeping sweetness from
themselves. When someone gets too close with sweetness, they feel
threatened in their power to be who they are, and an emotion comes up to
create a safe distance again. The emotion is anger. Diabetes is
associated with suppressed anger.

The element associated with this chakra is fire, and the person’s
relationship with the sun says something about their relationship with
the parts of their consciousness associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra.

The color of the Solar Plexus Chakra is yellow.

The Heart Chakra is associated with the parts of the consciousness
concerned with relationships and our perceptions of love. The
relationships we speak of here are with those people closest to our heart
- partners, parents, siblings, children.

The parts of the body associated with this chakra include the heart and
lungs, and the blood circulatory system as a system. This chakra is also
associated with the thymus gland, which controls the immune system. When
this is affected, as with AIDS, the person’s lifestyle separates them
from someone they love.

The physical sense associated with this chakra is the sense of touch, in
its aspect of relating to the person inside the body. For example, a
massage given to someone with no sensitivity to what the person is
feeling inside would be an example of the sensation we associate with the
Abdominal Chakra, but when the masseur seems to have a sense of what the
person inside the body is experiencing, then it includes the aspect of
relating we associate with the Heart Chakra. When someone experiences
extreme sensitivity about being touched, we would ask what was happening
at the level of the Heart Chakra.

This chakra is associated with the element of air. When someone has
difficulty with air, with breathing (asthma, emphysema, tuberculosis,
etc.), we say that their relationship with air reflects their
relationship with love – difficulty letting it in, or letting it out, for
example

The color associated with the Heart Chakra is emerald green.

The Throat Chakra is associated with the parts of the consciousness
concerned with expressing and receiving. Expressing can be in the form of
communicating what one wants and what one feels, or it can be artistic
expression, as an artist painting, a dancer dancing, a musician playing
music, using a form for expressing and bringing to the outside what was
within. Expression is related to receiving, as, “Ask, and ye shall
receive.”

The throat chakra is associated with abundance, and with the state of
consciousness called, “grace,” where it seems that what you want for you
is also what God wants for you. Accepting what the abundant universe
offers you requires a sense of unconditionally receiving.

This chakra is also associated with listening to one’s intuition, and
flowing in a particular way where it seems that the Universe supports you
in all that you do. It is the first level of consciousness from which one
perceives another level of intelligence functioning, and one’s
interaction with this other level of intelligence.

Parts of the body associated with this chakra include the throat,
shoulders, and arms and hands. and the thyroid gland.

The sense of hearing is associated with this chakra, and the element of
ether, the most subtle physical element, corresponding to what we find in
deep space. The ether is the crossover between the physical and the
spiritual dimensions. Someone looking at the world through this chakra
watches the manifestation of their goals. The Will Arm represents
manifesting what you want, and the Feeling Arm represents manifesting
what makes you happy. Hopefully, the two point to the same thing.

Sky Blue is the color associated with this chakra.

The Brow Chakra is associated with the parts of the consciousness
concerned with the spiritual view, and the

  of the Spirit, the Being
within. This level of consciousness is associated with what western
traditions call the unconscious or subconscious, the part of our
consciousness that directs our actions and our life. From this level we
are aware of the motivations behind our actions. We can watch our outer
theater from an inner point of view.

This chakra is associated with the carotid plexus, and the nerves on each
side of the face, and the pituitary gland. Headaches in the temples or
center of the forehead are associated with tensions at this level. This
chakra controls the entire endocrine system as a system, and the process
of growth.

The Brow chakra, also known as the Third Eye, is associated with extra
sensory perception (ESP), the set of all inner senses that correspond to
the outer senses, which together comprise spirit-to-spirit communication.
The element associated with this chakra is a vibration known as the Inner
Sound, the sound that one hears in their ears that does not depend upon
something in the physical world. Some consider it a pathological
condition. In some of the eastern traditions the ability to hear this is
considered a necessary prerequisite to further spiritual growth.

The color associated with this chakra is Indigo, midnight blue, the color
of lapis lazuli, or the color of the night sky during a full moon.

The Crown Chakra is associated with the parts of the consciousness
concerned with unity or separation, and just as the Root Chakra showed
our connection with Mother Earth, this chakra shows our connection with
Our Father, Which Art in Heaven. At first, it is associated with our
connection with our biological father. This becomes the model for our
relationship with authority, and this becomes the model for our
relationship with God. When there is a sense of separation from our
biological father, the person closes this chakra, and the effect on the
consciousness is a sense of isolation and aloneness, being in a shell,
and difficult to make contact with those outside the shell.

The person feels as if they are hiding from God, or hiding from
themselves, not seeing what is true for them in the deepest part of their
consciousness, the part we call the soul.

This chakra is also associated with a sense of direction.

The parts of the body controlled by this chakra are the pineal gland, the
brain, and the entire nervous system as a system.

The color associated with the Crown Chakra is Violet, the color of
amethyst.

Using The Map

When there is tension in a particular part of the body, this represents a
tension in a particular part of the consciousness, about a particular
part of the person’s life. Being aware of these associations helps one to
see the importance of resolving the tense issues in their life.

If it were only a question of doing what is necessary for the person to
be happy, that would be reason enough to motivate the person to want to
change something that doesn’t work for them, but here, we see that it is
also a matter of health. The issues that are unresolved in a person’s
life are, in fact, hazardous to their health.

When we see the correspondences between the consciousness and the body,
we see the degree to which we each create our reality. In fact, those
words begin to take on a new meaning. We see how everything begins in our
consciousness and we are able to look around us at other aspects of our
lives in the same way.

When we see how the body carries out the messages and deepest wishes of
the Being within the body, we can realize that the process can go in more
than one direction. If our consciousness is directing how we develop
symptoms, it can also direct how we release these same symptoms. If our
consciousness can make our body ill, our consciousness can make our body
well.

The logical conclusion of this process is that anything can be healed.

We now know that premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is experienced by 60% of all
women. What causes PMS has been difficult for researchers to pin down
because each woman experiences symptoms differently.

PMS Symptoms

When making the diagnosis, the most important tool you can use is a chart
of the cyclic nature in which they occur. If nothing is done to interrupt
PMS, it often gets worse over time. You may begin by having symptoms just
a few days before your period that stop abruptly as soon as your period
begins. Later, the symptoms gradually begin to appear one to two weeks
before the onset of menses. Over time, you may have only two or three
days of the month that are symptom-free. Eventually no discernable
pattern of good days and bad days can be detected. You feel as if you
have PMS all of the time.

There are general symptoms that have been determined that include:

* Abdominal bloating

* Abdominal cramping

* Accident proneness, coordination difficulties

* Acne, hives

* Aggression, rage

* Alcohol intolerance

* Anxiety, irritability, suicidal thoughts

* Asthma

* Back pain

* Breast swelling and pain

* Bruising

* Confusion

* Depression, withdrawal from others, emotional liability

* Edema

* Exacerbation of preexisting conditions (lupus, arthritis, ulcers,
herpes, etc.)

* Fatigue, lethargy

* Fainting

* Food binges, salt cravings, sweet cravings

* Headache, migraine

* Heart palpitations

* Insomnia

* Joint swelling and pain

* Nausea

* Seizures

* Sex drive changes

* Sinus problems

* Sore throat

* Urinary difficulties

Don?t confuse PMS with cramps occurring at the beginning of your period,
which is a different condition.

Chart the Pattern

You don?t have to suffer. By keeping a chart of your symptoms, you can
often begin to see a pattern emerge and predict when the symptoms will
start. Keeping a daily symptom journal can be a valuable tool when trying
to uncover your premenstrual symptom triggers and the issues associated
with them. Many events and other factors can contribute to or trigger
your PMS by resulting in hormonal changes in the body, including:

* Onset of menses

* Perimenopause

* Discontinuing birth control pills

* Amenorrhea

* Childbirth, or termination of pregnancy

* Toxemia during pregnancy

* Tubal ligation

* Unusual trauma

* Decreased light associated with autumn and winter

* Family history of alcoholism; parent or grandparent who is an
alcoholic

* High consumption of dairy products

* Excessive consumption of caffeine (soft drinks, coffee, chocolate)

* High blood levels of estrogen

* Low blood levels of progesterone, either due to lack of production or
excessive breakdown

* Diet that leads to increased levels of the hormone prostaglandin F2

* Excess body weight which can increase you levels of estrogen

* Low levels of vitamins B, C and/or E

* Selenium deficiency

* Magnesium deficiency causing chocolate cravings

End the Suffering

Many of the factors in this list you can control. For years allopathic
(traditional) medicine has given symptomatic treatments for PMS that do
not work. Most physicians do not know the latest research on hormone
balancing. Some never had any training in PMS. Treating a woman?s
bloating with diuretics, headaches with painkillers, and anxiety with
Valium ignores the underlying imbalance that led to PMS. Many of the
treatments prescribed often have side effects. Psychotherapy can provide

Yoga is an ancient Indian science and way of life, which influences the
functioning of the brain and the rest of the body. Several studies have
shown that the practice of yoga has a definite role in the promotion of
positive health, including mental health, characterized by improved
cardio-respiratory efficiency, autonomic responses to stressors, sleep,
muscular endurance, and `higher? brain functions. With an increase in the
incidence of stress-related ailments, related to the rapid pace of life
today, yoga has been evaluated as a treatment for such disorders in
several controlled trials. The disorders, which were most likely to
respond to yoga, with reduced symptoms and need for medication, were
bronchial asthma, non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus, anxiety
neurosis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

THE CONCEPT OF HEALTH
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) the state of health is
defined as a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual
well being and not merely an absence of disease or infirmity. It is clear
from this definition that health and ill-health are not two discrete
entities as commonly understood but health should be conceived as a
continuous function indicating the state of well being.
The ancient Indian science, Yoga, has its origin in the Sankhya
philosophy of Indian culture, which is about 8000 years old (Nagarathna,
2001). Yoga includes a wide range of techniques (e.g., physical postures,
regulated breathing, cleansing techniques, meditation, philosophical
principles, and devotional sessions, surrendering to the Supreme). These
techniques bring about a calm and balanced state of mind, and are
expected to help the spiritual evolution of the individual. However, yoga
has more pragmatic applications in medicine. In order to understand
these, it is important to know the concepts of ?health? and ?disease? in
Yoga texts.
According to yoga, man is in perfect health and

(Vasudeva, 1937). Yoga has been considered especially useful in the
management of stress related disorders by getting mastery over the
excessive speed of the mind. The technique to reducing the rate of flow
of thoughts with deep internal awareness is yoga. This review will
describe the therapeutic applications of yoga in the management of
arthritis.
Physical activity is an essential part of the effective treatment of
osteoarthritis (OA) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA), according to treatment
guidelines published by the American College of Rheumatology (Hochberg,
1995; Newsome, 2002). In persons with arthritis, exercise is safe and
does not exacerbate pain or worsen disease (Ettinger,1997; Minor,1999;
O’Grady,2000;Bearne,2002). In fact, exercise may play a key role in
promoting joint health (Forrest,1994) , since those who do not exercise
often suffer more joint discomfort than those who do (Nordemar,1981).
However, regular physical activity is especially important for people
with arthritis, who often have decreased muscle strength, physical
energy, and endurance (Lyngberg,1988). The psychological benefits of
exercise such as stress reduction, fewer depressive symptoms, improved
coping and well-being and enhanced immune functioning
(Taylor,1985;Scully,1998;Fox,1999 Paluska,2000) also contribute to
greater overall health.
Scientific studies on yoga
Yoga has been used in the management of a wide range of diverse ailments.
While there is a great deal of anecdotal evidence of the benefits of
yoga, to date only a handful of scientific studies have been conducted on
persons with OA and RA (though several more are currently underway). The
study conducted in England demonstrated that hand grip strength
significantly improved following yoga in rheumatoid arthritis patients
(Haslock,1994). It was subsequently proven that yoga resulted in similar
benefits in rheumatoid arthritis patients in an Indian population (Dash,
2001). Studies in osteoarthritis of the hands and carpal tunnel syndrome
show greater improvement in pain during activity, tenderness and finger
range of motion (Garfinkel, 1994).
These above studies have shown promising results with some improvement in
joint health, physical functioning, and mental/emotional well-being.
Perhaps most importantly, yoga has an important positive effect on
quality of life. People with arthritis may also enjoy yoga more than
traditional forms of exercise, and exercise enjoyment is an important
predictor of adherence(Ryan,1997;Trost,2003).This is particularly
important considering that, on average, 50% of sedentary individuals will
drop out of exercise within 6 months (Dishman,1990).
In summary, yoga can be a meaningful and enjoyable alternative to
traditional forms of exercise such as aerobics or aquatic exercise with
important health benefits. Yoga can play an important role in reducing
stress and frustration that results from pain and disability, and
increasing positive feelings and wellbeing. Drug treatments for OA and RA
have improved markedly in the last few years. Despite this, arthritis
cannot be cured, and even the best medications and medical care can only
help a little. There is a great need for additional activities patients
can do to reduce pain, disability, and take control of the overall impact
arthritis may have on their lives. Thus, the evidence suggests that, when
combined with a program of good medical care, yoga may provide important
additional physical and psychological health benefits for arthritis
patients.
Finally, it has to be emphasized that while yoga has important
therapeutic benefits, the practice of yoga is very important in the
promotion of positive health and human potential in body, mind, and
spirit (Scott, 1999).

Allergies can range from a mild seasonal annoyance to a life threatening
condition. There are a number of different types of allergies that affect
millions of people.

Some of the most common types of allergies are food allergies. The
reactions to food allergies can range in severity. Some individuals
experience an upset stomach or mild headache when they eat certain kinds
of foods. Other people, however; have very serious reactions that can be
life threatening.

Of the food allergy categories, shellfish and peanut allergies are quite
common and can very serious, even leading to death. Many of the signs and
symptoms related to food allergies include rashes, itching, nasal
congestion, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, swelling of the lips, tongue
and/or throat.

In very serious reactions, the individual may go into shock and
experience a rapid drop in blood pressure. The airway may also begin to
constrict, making it difficult for the person to breath. At this point,
the allergic reaction becomes life threatening and emergency medical help
should be sought immediately.

In many cases, food allergies can be caused due to a genetic family
history. Many children experience food allergies in their younger years
but then eventually grow out of the condition as they mature.

Some individuals also suffer from various types of drug allergies. These
types of allergies most commonly include reactions to the drug known as
penicillin; however other types of drugs may also cause reactions. Sulfa
drugs, anesthesia and insulin also cause allergic reactions in a number
of people.

It is very important to let anyone treating you know if you suffer from
any type of drug allergy. Many people who suffer from drug reactions and
allergies also find it beneficial to carry some kind of identifying
information with them to denote the allergy in the event of an accident.

While no one reacts well to an inset sting or bite, in some people the
situation can become life threatening. These individuals usually begin to
experience what is known as anaphylaxis when stung or bitten. Anaphylaxis
is an extremely serious medical condition in which the airway becomes
constricted and the person is at risk for dying if medical help is not
sought immediately.

Other common symptoms related to impending anaphylaxis include swelling
of the face and shock. Severe allergic reactions are usually associated
with bites and stings from wasps, bees, hornets and yellow jackets.

Allergic reactions to latex are a problem that is not well known by many
people but that can be extremely serious. Individuals can come into
contact with latex in a number of ways and environments; both at

at work. It is commonly found in many types of rubber as well as shoes,
balloons, gloves, condoms and rubber bands.

The reaction related to latex exposure in a person with this type of
allergy can range from mild to severe. As with all other allergic
reactions, it can become life threatening if anaphylaxis occurs.
Individuals who suffer from latex allergies develop it because they have
been around and exposed to latex significantly at some point in their
lives.

Considering that thousands of products contain latex, it may be difficult
to pinpoint when and where this occurred. Some people develop the problem
if they have frequent surgeries because of the fact that most surgical
gloves are made from latex. If you suffer from a latex allergy it is
imperative that you inform your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery.

Exposure to latex during a surgery can be quite serious, even life
threatening. Alternate measures can be used if you inform the medical
staff.

You may also consider carrying some type of allergy identification in the
case of an accident.

Individuals who have life threatening allergies, such as some food
allergies and allergies related to insect stings and bites may be advised
by their doctor to carry a special medical kit with them at all times.
This kit usually contains an antidote known as epinephrine and is
commonly used as an =injectable. While the epinephrine will work as
antidote, medical attention should still be sought immediately.

Dust mite allergies affect many people who do not even realize that the
symptoms they experience are related to an allergy. Dust mites are small
organisms that prefer to inhabit areas that are dark and warm. They are
completely invisible to the naked eye.

You’ve probably heard it — and ignored it — many times: Make health a
priority and it will pay dividends. If that describes you, consider this:
What if there was evidence that taking your health habits more seriously
actually could help you on the job, would that perk up your ears?

Truth is, your job and your health are closely intertwined. Think back on
the last time you came down with a common cold. You coughed, sneezed and
wheezed, and your work performance probably suffered, even if just a
little. And that — sub-par performance — can add to your stress. And when
you’re under stress, you run the risk of getting even sicker or
prolonging your illness.

Many organizations have cut back on personnel. Employees are asked to do
more with less support and resources. People who have little control over
their job — such as inflexible schedules or not much say in what they do
— and high levels of stress are more likely to be absent from work due to
an illness.

It’s easy to put your health on the back burner to meet a big deadline at
the office. However, increased job stress can have a negative impact on
your health if it causes you to work long hours, eat poorly, skip regular
exercise or not get enough sleep. Some evidence suggests that job stress
can lead to long-term increases in blood pressure. You might feel like
there aren’t enough hours in the day or week, but “you can’t let work
override staying healthy,” says Robin Molella, M.D., a prevention
specialist at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.

Let your health slide, and you’ll probably have problems in the
workplace, too. When you’re ill, even everyday tasks are more difficult.
For example, recovering from knee surgery may have you moving around on
crutches. Managing a chronic condition, such as diabetes or asthma, can
keep you on a strict medication schedule. But you can take an active role
in helping keep your health on track and your stress level at a minimum.
You’ll be healthier — and perform better on and off the job — in the long
run. Try following these five steps:

1. DETERMINE YOUR PRIORITIES:

Many families are challenged to balance careers, meet financial demands
and still have a satisfying

  life. Staying healthy can be easier if
you set priorities. Make a list of things that you consider important in
your life, for example, spending time with your family, succeeding at

Expect difficult days — dealing with the funeral of a loved one or a
meeting with the principal because your child’s in trouble at school —

your most important resource. Learn some ways to recharge your battery so

relaxing in a warm bath or curling up with a good book after a stressful
day. Or spend a weekend afternoon hiking or walking outdoors to get fresh
air and gain perspective.
